I have been sitting here and thinking about a lot of things. Like, why I don't want to get up and DO anything? As I was sitting here pondering on the meaning of laziness, and other assorted things, it suddenly hit me like a ton of bricks......I've got the mid winter blues!
What is that? you might ask. Well, I am gonna tell you.
The mid winter blues come about about this time of year due to the dip in temperatures, and the lack of sunshine. Now, while there is a bunch of scientific stuff to back this up, I am going to put it in plain english. English, you know, the OFFICIAL language of the United States...
Well, anyway, we all know that when it is cold, and cloudy, or gloomy, that we would prefer to curl up in bed or on the couch with a good book. Well, that is because we need more sunlight. Think about it. In the spring and summer, when the days are longer, aren't we all outside, doing things, and soaking up the sun? And isn't our mood usually a lot brighter during that time? You laugh easier, things don't seem to bother you as bad, you are game to do different things, maybe even things you have never tried before.
But, in the wintertime, it is different. You come home from work, too tired to move, just wanting to get under some cover and curl up, and read, or watch tv, or nap. Well, I know that I act that way, so I am presuming that most of you do , too. We need that sunshine to get us going.
If I were describing it, I would liken it to watching as new plants push up through the soil in the spring. Or, new leaves budding out on the trees. We feel reawakened, just like nature. And we seem to have more energy.
So, we need a way to get more energy during these months when we can't get outside and do lots of things. Well, here is what I recommend... do things indoors with you family. Play board games, play cards, watch a movie, color with you kids,; whatever you like to do. And, put the highest wattage bulbs in your lamps that the manufacturer states they will take. (Sorry, but the "new green" bulbs won't do for this. You need good old incandescient bulbs for this.) Lighten up that room!!! And put on some good music. You know, the kind that makes you feel good INside. Get up and dance. Act silly. Play charades. Get that blood flowing!
Try this at least one, maybe two nights a week, and I will guarantee that you will feel better, and have more energy, as well as a sense of contentment.
I know, this is philosophical today, instead of just pure bull, but, after reading some of my friends posts on a favorite blog, I thought it might be something we ALL need to do. Try it. You'll like it! ;)
